The Electricity Sector requires digitization
The Minister of Mines ispreparing an energy transformation through digitization and renewable energies. In fact, these objectives were included in the National Development Plan (NDP). The process seeks to bring regulation and the sector up to date with new technologies; and thus, move towards the digitization of the electricity sector.
“Colombia has the sixth cleanest energy matrix in the world. The country produces 70 of its generation with hydraulic sources. At the same time, the energy sector is one of the twenty countries most vulnerable to climate change.” The World Economic Council says.
In the National Development Plan there is an important agenda to incorporate these issues into the regulatory framework. CreG therefore sets out an agenda for 2020; which will include definitions around: smart metering, intraday market and demand share. With this we hope that “Innovation in the electricity sector will be very high and that is in the best interests of the user,”the minister says.
In the first quarter 2019 “we’re going to start an energy mission, because that mission is going to do is to analyze the future and help us generate that transition for an energy transformation.” We hope the Minister will invite us to participate.
Blockchain, big data and artificial intelligence are a reality today and the principles of law 142 and 143 are an important foundation for promoting this change.
“The most inspiring thing about IRENA was to see the immense opportunity that Colombia has on the global map on the issue of alternative renewable energies. The possibilities in job creation because alternative (energy) produces more jobs than traditional ones and there is an opportunity to make greater gender equity and greater inclusion at the pace of alternative energies,” he explained.
The Minister recognizes that the country lags behind in introducing these energies to the rest of the world.
